I can't imagine how the oil doesn't breakdown in that heat. Does VW use synthetic or they just want you to buy a car every 3 years?

Sponsored Links Remove Advertisements. I don't mind changing the oil myself, but if I follow VW's maintenance program every 10K , I don't want a 36K mile motor with signs of excessive wear. My last car I owned I'd changed the oil at K miles. It had K miles 4cyl gas motor which never burned oil and major issues.

I like this car to do the same, that's all. So do you change your oil every 10k miles? I did my first oil change at 5K. The original oil was a little over a year old since the car sat on the lot for a while. I too don't want to go until 10K so I may do the next one at I'm not sold on 10k either but I don't have any data to the contrary. I've been doing every 5k. I change mine every 5.

Last edited by Lucidd; at It doesn't give capacities like the old manuals. And also, it gives an oil code: VW , two different codes for the gas engine, no reference to which to use 2. For the oil change on the 2. If you hard driving conditions then the oil change should be every 5k.

The oil is w and its 6 quarts. The filter is above the lower engine cover. You have to take it off then undo the canister. Dont shade tree it Thanks guys, much appreciated! I don't drive very hard, and it's not hot here yet So I'll change at k? Follow the maintenance schedule. So long as you use VW approved oil and follow the maintenance schedule, you will be fine.

There's a reason as to why the sump is larger and holds more oil. We Americans seem to have this thing where we should change oil every k miles when it's not actually necessary. I don't understand why people talk about their oil at F outside temperature when the engine is running at roughly C If your car is running properly, the outside temperature should have no effect on the engine oil temperature.

Just put mine in today at the owners manuals advice, 15, KM. Bringing mine in for its second service since owning it for over a year. First oil change service at 15,kms and now the second at 30,kms.

Quaker State, Pennz, and Valvoline all make a 5W oil, though they aren't popular. Don't get confused and end up buying diesel engine oil, those aren't approved. Most approved oils are pushed as "European Formula" and will have the VW spec They are literally identical to the Mann and original VW filters. Buy which ever one you can find for cheap.
